Show us your best moves, get creative and have fun
Spend a day exploring what you’re capable of as a dancer, growing more confident with every shot. Enjoy researching dance images, sharing ideas with your friends and supporting each other as you create beautiful images in an inspiring location. You’ll have guidance every step of the way from a choreographer and an experienced performance photographer who knows how to use colour, composition, lighting and fabrics to bring out your skill and creativity in ways you’ve never imagined. Bring out your creative side and experiment with using fabrics to create colourful and dynamic backdrops, choosing locations in the venue and working with a team to create artistic images.
When you book one of our dance photography days, you get a four-hour group shoot, group and individual photos, choice of lighting, choreographer to advise on poses, carefully chosen backdrops, a range of fabrics to throw around and get creative with.
A few days after the shoot, you will receive a wide range of web resolution images to choose from and, when you’ve made your choices, five beautifully retouched full-resolution portraits to record your progress as a dancer / add to your portfolio / share on social media / plus the opportunity to order prints (at additional cost) to hang on your wall.
Dancers should bring their own costumes, lunch and a drink. Events are limited to dancers ages 11 and over and parental permission is required for dancers under 18.

Hi - I’m Paul Armstrong - a professional photographer serving Whitby, North Yorkshire and beyond. I work in my studio or on location, travelling throughout the UK for select shoots and commissions.
You'll find me behind the lens for all sorts of adventures: creative, artistic portraits, high-energy live event photoshoots, brand storytelling, candid wedding photography, documentary work, and commercial projects.
What connects everything I do is my love for storytelling and my commitment to showing people, and the things they care about, at their absolute best.
Achieving Distinction in the IOP Professional Diploma in Photography, I am a Qualified member of the Guild of Photographers and also an Associate member of the Association of Photographers.

How Our Dance Photography Days started
It all started when we set up a studio in Robin Hood’s Bay village hall and captured stunning photos with a group of dancers. The decision to make these shoots a ‘thing’ came from seeing the dancers researching dance images, sharing ideas and supporting each other throughout the shoot. An opportunity arose to do another shoot in an The Old Parcels Office Artspace in Scarborough (a first for the gallery), making greater use of the impressive location as well as setting up the portable studio there. The enthusiasm of the dancers and their response to the final images led to another session at the stunning Eighteen 91 event venue in Whitby. Realising how popular these days are becoming, we’ve decided to offer them to dancers from across the area.
